JUDGING INFO
WHO IS JUDGING?: We have Cosplay Guests Pink Petal Cosplay& Pink Opal Cosplay hosting and Judging the Contest. We have several back up judges who hold degrees and have professional experience in fashion design & fine arts in case of any need for a tie breaking vote.
WHAT IS THE CRITERIA FOR JUDGING?: Judges are looking for Craftsmanship, Creativity use of materials, and Presentation
Craftsmanship = The quality of the construction of the costume. Talking about Construction, Quality, and Technique. Examples;
😀 Straight stitches , Dyed Fabric, Use of electronics…etc.
Creativity use of Materials = The use of materials in an unconventional way which embodies or amplifies the character.
😀 Is the use of material(s) original, unique, and/or does it ad value to the cosplay style?
Presentation = The presence you have as the character you are cosplaying. Stage presence, attitude, AURA! The embodiment of the character. Basically; How the Character being portrayed?
😀 A core factor is expressiveness. Judging is based on expressing the cosplay to the audience (convention), authenticity of presentation (not the character, but presentation) as well as all the active elements involved like the walk, the looks, the presence your cosplay takes in the space, the movements…etc .FYI, Being silent can be as expressive as being loud.
WILL THERE BE PRE-JUDGING? No, we will not have pre-judging in the traditional sense. Judges will look at cosplays as contestants are lined up for their contest and may at times ask questions or interact with contestants in line. This takes place in front of other contestants and is not a formal pre-judging situation with committed time and review at equal lengths per contestant. This line up and interaction is not formal and is not an official part of the judgement part of the cosplay contest.
WHEN WILL JUDGES DECIDE THE WINNERS? Typically around 5 - 10 minutes upon the conclusion of the contest, judges will have their decisions finalized and will then announce winners. Winners should if comfortable come on stage to receive their prize, recognition, and stay on stage to take photos with all the other winning cosplayers.
